Wendy Gervais was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. She was educated at the University of New Brunswick where she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in history and anthropology. She attended the University of Windsor, Ontario, following by the University of Alberta where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Arts, majoring in painting. After graduation from the University of Alberta she worked from her studio at the Great West Saddlery Building in downtown Edmonton until 1986. Between 1986 and 1996 she devoted her time to her family. She is now in her studio in Garneau School where she previously had been part of an artist-in-residence team.

In 1996 Wendy became the artist in residence at Garneau Elementary School. She continued to maintain a studio at the school in 1999 after the program ended. From her third floor studio window she observed and recorded the changing Garneau community characterized by natural and man-made objects of trees and houses. The works displayed in the Library Nov 26 - Dec 30, 2001 reflect these images.
