Altered Reality

By Michael Slattery

March 1 - 28, 2002

Born: 1973 in Toronto, ON

Education: Graduated from the photo-art faculty at the Ontario College of Art & Design in 1998.

After graduating from College, I starved myself as a good artist should but then I got hungry, rent was due, and so was my student loans. So I worked as a graphic designer for a while. The work was educational and informative but it was limiting my creativity.

I consider myself a "multi-media artist"; that is, a combination of various mediums such as photography, oils, acrylics, spray paint, and other messy materials that can stain the carpet.

Having decided to pursue this field, I set up my own business as a free-lance photographer.

To me, a photograph is limited: it lacks human spirit since there is little physical contact involved. This philosophy led me to produce this series of works entitled "Altered Reality". my work begins as a photograph which is then transformed through a creative process to produce an entirely new perspective.
