Keith Turnbull
Sculpture Show

My goal is to create figurative sculptures that portray people in all their diversity. I try to follow advice given to me by a dear friend, who said to me “when in doubt, look to the human side”. There is much to life that is serious, but not all of the time. My sculptures show the lighter side of everyday life.

I was thinking about Lois Hole when I assembled this small show, and as my personal tribute to her I included farmers, a gardener, a singer, parents with children, including a dad reading with his child, and ordinary people getting to know each other.

I have been doing figurative sculpture in clay since 1994, when I took the first of several courses at the University of Alberta’s Department of Extension. Since 2000 I have attended Monday night drop-in sculpture sessions at Harcourt House. I have exhibited in Harcourt House Members Exhibits for the past four years, the Sculpture Association of Alberta’s Muttart Conservatory exhibit, Echoes Through Time, summer 2004 and have two pieces in “The Lightness Of Being” show opening February 12 at the McMullan Gallery.

I currently sit on the boards of Harcourt House Arts Centre and Fringe Theatre Adventures, and recently retired as an Associate Director at the Edmonton Public Library.

I am very pleased to have the opportunity to show my work at the Edmonton Public Library, which I believe to be one of our most important public institutions.
