The well-attended Ku Klux Klan convention in Memorial Hall, Edmonton, 1932, reflected the xenophobia that characterized some Albertans’ response to Depression conditions. The KKK, initially the product of former Southern plantation owners’ efforts to control their former slaves, entered Canada as an organization to foster hatred of non-whites, non-Protestants and immigrants
