Raising Kids in Edmonton, 1950s, by Kathryne Faye Bielby

Date: 1955

I had two children – Myra, 3 years and Mark, 9 months, when we moved to Edmonton in 1955. We did a lot of picnicking when the children were young. We went to Borden Park often where there was rather [unknown ?] but it proved to be a big attraction for the children. We always took a lunch and very often would chat with other families.

Another favorite spot was Whitemud Creek. We would go along Saskatchewan Drive to Keillor Rd. We had our supper of hot dogs right where the Whitemud Freeway crosses the area. We went nearly every Sunday while the children were young. We had great fun riding the E.T.S. to the fairgrounds for the rides and sat on the curb for what seemed like hours waiting for the parade to come by.
