The Milkman, an Edmonton story of the 1950s, by Mary Cavill

Mary Cavill describes her milkman in the 1960s, 'the epitome of friendly service-a typical Edmontonian.'

The milkman was the most interesting person I met each week. He never failed to leave the exact amount of milk I had ordered, and on one occasion when I forgot to leave the money in the milk chute, he trusted me to pay him the next week.

He was full of information about the city; spoke to my husband about sports events, to my children about school, and to me about gardening. He was friendly, always had a joke to share, was ready to discuss political issues, and knew everybody who was on his route.

I don't remember his name, but he was the epitome of friendly service - a typical Edmontonian.
