The Toonerville Trolley, A story about the best-loved streetcar in south Edmonton, Strathcona, by Betty Millman

The trolley carried picnickers to their favourite fishing spot.

Another trip we enjoyed was taking the Toonerville Trolley. We got on at 104th Street. It left this stop and traveled south to 76th Avenue, then right to 114th Street where it turned west.

The Toonerville trip was made once an hour. When the driver reached the end of the line, we got off with our picnic lunch and walked down to the Whytemud hill to fish.

The driver left his seat then walked to the back of the car where there was another driver’s seat, and another set of controls. He started the car moving without turning it around and headed back to Whyte Avenue.
