An anecdote about children and religion

A scholar in our small, but always right denomination had at one time in the distant past decreed that the phrase in the Lord’s prayer, “Forgive us our trespasses” was an incorrect translation. So each Sunday we dutifully intoned, “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”

Our five year old came home from kindergarten at Our Lady of Mercy School and announced, “Catholics got no debts.”

His started parents said, “What?”

“Catholics got no debts.”

“What do you mean? How do you know that Catholics have no debts?”

“Catholics got no debts cause they got trespasses.”
